Sarah LeBlanc, LICSW
I started my career in the mental health field working with adults in residential settings with severe and persistent mental illness. I later received my Master of Social Work from Bridgewater State University in 2007 and have provided individual therapy to adults with depression, anxiety, trauma, relationship issues, substance abuse, and a variety of other issues since then. One of the most exciting things for me is to see clients begin to learn more about themselves, build confidence and grow as individuals. Ultimately, we all deserve to feel better and learn to care for ourselves in a more kind and accepting way. I see myself as an assistant to clients who are looking for these things in their lives and I genuinely want to help those people who want to feel less stress, anxiety, depression, loss, etc., and to feel happy and have fulfilling lives.
Therapy is not a one size fits all kind of thing. What works for one person may not work for the next. As a result, I tend to use a variety of therapeutic modalities with clients. I frequently use a casual CBT style, mindfulness, and interventions from a variety of other modalities. I am client-centered, and strengths-based in my approach and believe that laughter can be good medicine as well.
Taking the first steps to initiate therapy can be incredibly scary and intimidating. Not only can the stigma associated with mental health care be a barrier for some people, but also beginning the process of talking about pain, shame, or maybe ways you feel “less than” can be terrifying. I make every effort to help the clients I work with to feel at ease with the therapeutic process, no matter how long it takes to accomplish that. I approach each client as an individual, deserving of acceptance and respect, and should be valued and understood.
