Kat Nelson (Maiden Name: Frumin) , LICSW
I started my career path in 2010 by volunteering my time at a suicide prevention lifeline providing support for individuals in distress, and learned that being present for people in their most vulnerable times of need is one of the most humbling yet fulfilling services I can provide. In 2013, I returned to school to get my Masters in Social Work, and graduated from Bridgewater State University in 2015. I continued my journey by guiding adolescents/young adults and their families in residential care and university settings. I continued my professional growth in hospital settings as well.
I started my work as a private practice therapist in 2018, and I primarily guide adolescents and young adults; I offer both individual, and family therapy when working with adolescents. I have a client-centered, strengths-based approach in assisting my clients (and the important individuals in their lives) to gain a better understanding of what may be contributing to the challenges they may be experiencing, and to guide clients who are ready to produce dynamic change in their lives. It is my goal to empower clients to both explore and learn from the challenges they face, and to grow from these experiences. I specialize in guiding clients living with trauma, grief/loss, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, amongst others, and I assist clients to build on their coping skills to reach their greatest potential to reach their identified goals. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectal Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Yoga, and utilize Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused techniques in guiding clients.
